Looks like everyone is writing about their New Year’s goals or resolutions, so I thought I would also share my goals with you as well as show you how I set them.
I was never really personal on this blog, I am a more reserved person by nature, but I think it is time for me to start coming out of my shell, especially considering the goals I am going after this year.
There seems to be lots of great advice on other websites on how to set clear goals and actually follow through.
I really like Steve Pavlina’s approach of choosing one primary focus for the year. However, one is too limiting for me so I choose two primary focuses for the year.
This year my choices are relationships and business growth. You can choose health, spiritual growth, education, career etc. Just write down all the areas that are important to you and pick one or two that you’ll focus on the most this year.
Does it mean that you’ll completely abandon your health if you choose to focus on career? Of course not! The reason this approach works is because you are setting priorities and it gives your mind great focus. It is like a compass for making more powerful choices in your everyday life.
Then you have to set clear and measurable goals for the areas you chose. If you chose career – your primary goals might be – find a new job, network more or whatever other goals you might have.
I prefer having no more than 3 big goals for each area you are focusing on. You can have up to 5, I don’t think you should go for more.
What’s in a word?
Besides choosing two life areas as my primary focus for the year I also chose two primary words to define that focus. Two words of the year.
Again I saw lots of people choosing one word or I saw someone doing one word for each month like January – trust, February – courage, March – action etc.
Two words for the year work the best for me however.
Why two? It’s like a main suit in your wardrobe and accessories. Both are equally important and the impression you make wouldn’t be complete or the same if you just had one without the other. So I chose two words.
What’s in a word? One word can express so much actually. It’s a symbol, but there is so much meaning in it. It’s a declaration, an affirmation, a reminder. It’s your mantra.
By combining these two techniques – choosing two life areas to focus on and two words to guide you, you are going to give your mind so much clarity and that’s exactly what your mind needs to help you in reaching your goals.
But it’s not even about reaching certain goals – that will hopefully come as a byproduct. It is about giving yourself power and making clear choices in everything you do. No more wondering whether you should do something or not. It’s all about feeling empowered and being aligned with your Higher Self in every choice you make.
You probably already have several words in your mind that you’d want to choose from. Listen to yourself and choose what feels right.
What words resonate with you the most right now? Courage, trust, action, love, connection…there are so many to choose from. What are your two words?
My two words.
My two words for this year are – authenticity and trust.
I’ll make sure that everything I do is aligned with who I am and my purpose and passions. I am also going through lots of personal changes in life so I choose to trust that everything will work out and Universe will take care of me. I choose to trust my inner wisdom, my intuition. I choose to let go of fear and worry.
Choose your two words and you’ll see how much more empowered you’ll feel.
And for those of you who are interested in my business and relationships goals, here they are below.:
I have three main goals for my business:
1) This blog. It’s about time for me to get serious with it. I started blogging having no clear idea of what it is all about (I hardly ever read blogs before) and having no clear goals of how and why I am doing it.
It was a good learning experience but in the few months I was blogging last year I was mostly doing it in spurts of inspiration. If I had inspiration to write something, I did. If not, I didn’t.
I also spent very little time marketing this blog. So in 2010 I plan on becoming more consistent with my posting schedule and create lots of highly valuable content.
I will also start guest posting and being more involved in the social media arena to market the blog.
Becoming a professional blogger is not my goal. I want this blog to be an expression of who I am and give as much value as I can to the world and those who read my words.
I want it to be great resource for people to come to and learn. And finally I want it to be one of the platforms to offer my products and services in the future.
The main topic of the blog (I started it as highly biased towards the law of attraction) is going to be conscious living , finding yourself and your purpose in life ( living authentically) and also discovering and following your true passions and dreams. This is what is dear to my heart and what I know many of us need now. Major blog redesign is coming soon too to reflect all the changes.
2) The second business goal is to release a new product and offer some coaching related to it.
I already have an audio course and guided meditation CD of the month program that came with it. I’ve been selling it online since last May mostly through pay per click and ezine advertising. It was a good product and I had great reviews from those who bought it and zero returns to date.
But I decided to take it down few weeks ago. The main reason being, that product is not the True Me. I grew a lot consciously since I’ve created it and it just doesn’t feel like me anymore.
Some people asked me why I decided to take it down since I had no complaints and people who purchased benefited from it. All of that is true and I am so grateful to my first customers, but in the scope of trying to live a more authentic life I want everything I do to be a True expression of who I am. This is the only way for me to feel 100% confident offering it to others.
So I plan on releasing a new product. The product is actually already ready, this is something I created for myself and use myself, so it can’t get any more like Me. Now I just need to prepare and package it for the launch. I won’t tell yet what the product is, I want to finish it first.
3) And my last but probably most dear to my heart business goal for this year is to get Positivity Place off the ground. If you read about my dream, you know that I want to open a place where personal development is fun and routine.
Something similar to a a fitness club but for your Soul and Spirit. A place for people to come to on a regular basis to get closer to their True Selves, connect with others, learn something new. You can read more in detail about my Vision here.
I started working toward making that Vision a reality few months ago and am very excited.
We don’t have a permanent location yet so we organize personal development events and workshops across town here in Atlanta, GA. We already had a few personal development events and have more scheduled.
Some workshops and events are facilitated by me and my friend Marina who is an expressive arts therapist.
To most of them we plan on inviting various speakers and teachers from different fields of personal development.
My vision by the end of the year is to have a permanent location for Positivity Place where people will be able to come regularly and attend a class, or maybe form a mastermind group or just spend some time with themselves getting clear on who they are and what they want.
I also hope it to be a place for networking and connecting with like minded positive and goal oriented people.
My second focus:
And like I said my second focus for the year is relationships. Why relationships?
I am a very introverted person, one of those who would rather listen than talk. I don’t look like it but I am.
I think my introverted nature was even more enhanced when I moved to United States 5 years ago. Everything was new, I had no family and no friends here. New culture, new mentality that was very different from what I was used to. I had to go back to school again and figure out what I wanted to do with my life.
I think all of that caused me to get even further into my shell and not invite many people in. I probably made only a handful of friends in the first few years I lived here.
Last year was a breakthrough year for me though. I finally decided to get out and meet new people. And I met lots of great friends. I feel that this year is going to be even better and more exciting in terms of new connections.
I realized how important relationships with others are and want to meet and connect with as many people as I can. In a way I am going out of my comfort zone doing it and I like that.
So those are my main goals for 2010.
What are yours? Are you clear about them? Have you written them down? If you still haven’t, please do so now.
Let’s make 2010 the best year ever!
