Hi! I moved to a new place. I would love for you to visit me there.

I Refuse To Participate In A Rat Race or Why I Took A Break

Do you remember a time in your life when you just wanted to take a break from everything you were doing? Work, business, blog whatever it is… Just take a break and not think about any of those things (even if you do love doing them) anymore?

After releasing Clarity Manifesto last week, I realized I needed a break. Well, the break from blogging started even earlier, but last week I decided to take a full blown break.

A complete turn off from everything I was doing – blogging, marketing my coaching, Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin,  reading and commenting on other blogs (I love you, my dear fellow bloggers and learn so much from you, but I still felt like I needed a break from your genius), creating content, submitting articles, newsletters,  answering emails, etc… – if you do any business online, you know what I am talking about.

I love what I do. It almost never feels like a job. I love writing. I love helping people. I love my coaching sessions and “a-ha” moments my clients and I myself experience.

But I realized that I do need a break from that too. And I decided to not resist it this time. I gave in. Yes, there is always a fear that people will unsubscribe from your list and stop reading your blog and everyone will forget you on Twitter and no one will ever sign up for your coaching anymore.

But I refuse to live this way. It feels like another box, another rat race to me. I choose to believe in abundance of this wonderful Universe that always provides. I choose to believe in ease. I choose to believe that I am my only judge and if I consciously decide to not judge myself, no one else will.

I don’t believe in balance. I believe in rollercoaster. Work hard, rest hard. It works for me.

So what did I do on my little break?

I spent lots of time with my baby, my son Nicholas. I also spent lots of time with an amazing person who I met few months ago but only recently realized his amazingness fully. That was probably the main reason the break started, but more updates on that later. I took lots of walks in the park. Heck, I even got back to going to the gym. In short, it was a good break.

Now I am back. And will be updating the blog regularly again. This blog is something I’ll never leave. I might be taking breaks (not often) but I don’t see myself quitting blogging anytime soon. I love writing. I love the creation process.

I just signed up for Leo Babauta’s A-List Blogging bootcamp, so not only am I nowhere close to quitting, but I am taking it to the next level.

Check out my Clarity Manifesto that I released last week. It comes with a workbook + unique guided visualization CD + weekly videos to keep you motivated and on track.  The end goal Freedom and Meaning and Life in alignment with Your Truth.

Clarity works in amazing ways. I am still surprised sometimes how fast and easy it often is.

Anyway, that was my little update. I am glad to be back.

Hope all is great in your world!

I wondered where you went! Glad you’re back, and glad you don’t “drink the kool-aid,” when it comes to staying “on” all the time. How much more creative we all might be if took some time away!

Thanks Nichole and thank you for your email, I am getting back to you today!

This goddess Really resonated with your observation that our online efforts can become “another rat-race” and you’re soooo right. It can all become as overwhelming and tiring as working for someone else, but one of the inestimable benefits of working for ourselves is that we CAN heed the nudges from the Universe and give ourselves the rest, and disconnection that we need to recharge our batteries.
Glad you weren’t gone too long ~ and looking forward to the awesomeness to come!
Bliss and blessings,
The goddess known as Jacqui

Isn’t it common to want a vacation from things? That at some point, if you take a break, it helps to see how useful something is once it returns? I suppose in a way I’m trying to say that taking a break isn’t that special or odd to my mind.

I am glad you are back as at times you seem to stimulate different tracks of thought in my head. I have my own trains of thought, but I’m not the one that makes all the track.

I do remember back in October of 2007, having a melt-down that was pretty bad. I ended up losing my job and was more than a little bitter over it. I have found lots of other coping strategies and things to prevent me from getting that low again.

At the same time, yesterday morning I got to have my doctor’s appointment postponed because a couple of people decided to rob the pharmacy next door just before my appointment. This meant I got to see a handful of cop cars and at least a dozen policemen around my doctor’s office, enjoy some time on hold while I rescheduled the appointment, and had a few other changes to how my day will go. Sometimes we get breaks, whether we ask for them or not.

I agree JB, sometimes we get breaks whether we want them or not. The key is to not resist I think and just go with the flow:)

Hi Lana,

I’m glad that you were able to give yourself the gift of taking a break. It’s important to trust our inner guidance, to get out of our head and into our hearts. It’s also wonderful to connect in person, not just virtually 😉

Be well,

“get out of our head and into our hearts.” – I loved how you said it Kim!

Hi Lana,
I *love* that you believe in roller coaster– I do too…but just as your body has time to recover from the dizzying effects while you are waiting in line for the next coaster ride to begin, so too your body needs the rest period in life.
Plus, you’ve just given birth (your new manifesto) and as you know, women are always given breaks after birth…the time may vary per culture, but the break is always there. So, I’m glad you took one.
The sky is the limit, Lana, and I’m glad to see you back in the blogging world, and I’m looking forward to your next fabulous post/challenge/inspiration…..

Hey Lana,

Amen for taking breaks! Glad that you enjoyed yours. I think sometimes we need to re-charge and re-evaluate. I think re-invention is an important process that happens more than once in the course of a lifetime.

I am in the midst of my break and loving it. The project is coming along beautifully as is the upcoming move and studies.

It is wonderful to have you back! You go, girl! 🙂
